Covent Garden Market

The original vegetable market moved from Covent Garden to Nine Elms in Battersea in 1974, but the old market halls have been preserved and are now home to stalls selling quintessentially English goods. The old Apple Market in the North Hall showcases antiques on Mondays and arts and crafts from Tuesday to Sunday, selling everything from jewellery and clothing to silverware and pottery. South of the piazza is the Jubilee Market, which sells clothes, shoes and household goods, while just beyond is London's Transport Museum with over 200 years of history, a café and gift shop. The piazza itself is a great place to catch some of London's best street performers and buskers.

Leadenhall Marketaults

This restored Victorian food market is a fabulous place to pick up luxury foods at a fraction of shop prices. It features a huge variety of gourmet ingredients and fine wines, and is especially good for cheese, seafood, meat and poultry, game and rarer meats. The glass roof and cobbled alleys make it a particularly picturesque slice of old London life, and the many nearby market bars are a great place to wile away the time over a pint of London Pride and a traditional ploughman's lunch.
