Borough
Market |
|
|
Located
under the railway, this covered food market is one of the city's largest and
oldest. On Saturdays, there's a bustling farmer's market where you can pick
up fresh and organic produce, as well as the kind of home-made food that's
difficult to come by in your local supermarket - organic seasonal fruit,
confectionery, mushrooms, chutneys, jams, and an array of different breads
and cheeses. Borough
Market's surrounding Victorian architecture has proved a popular set for
British films such as Bridget Jones' Diary and Lock, Stock & Two Smoking
Barrels. Web Site

Bermondsey
Market |

A well-loved
antiques market that attracts as many collectors and dealers
as it does browsers. It's especially good for silverware, but there
are also paintings, ornaments and furniture and all kinds of bric-a-brac.
Remember, the early bird catches the worm, so get here first thing for the
best bargains. |

Riverside
Walk book market and Gabriel's
Wharf |
|
|
This small, second-hand book
fair has been going on for years down on the South Bank. Taking place
practically on the doorstep of the National Film Theatre, the rows of books
stalls attracts die-hard book fans looking for everything from the classics
of English literature to the off-beat and out of print, as well as old
magazines and prints.
Gabriel's Wharf and
Riverside Walk Markets Gabriel's Wharf stands beside the The pleasant square, set back from the river, is formed by the backs of warehouses painted to resemble house-fronts. Surrounding a bandstand, where Jazz bands sometimes play in the summer, Gabriel's Wharf Market is an attractive group of craft shops, boutiques and cafés. A few stalls are arranged around the courtyard, selling ethnic clothing, jewellery and ceramics. |
