Bayswater Road Market
|
|
This
outdoor art market stretches alongside Kensington Gardens,
with traders and artists laying out their wares on the pavement and along the
park railings for buyers and browsers to inspect. As well as oil paintings,
watercolours and sketches, there are some sculptures and handmade jewellery,
and dozens of artists offering to paint your portrait for around £10.

Portobello
Market
|
|
Recommended
by BBC London's Brenda Emmanus
"I'm a huge fan of Portobello
Road market because of the diversity of products
available and the small, unusual shops in he area. It's a great place to
browse for antique and beautiful jewellery, and there are loads of cheap and
second-hand clothes, with handmade designer garments and lots of vintage
denim and leather on offer. For more exclusive buys, the shopping arcade on
Portobello Green has some funky little boutiques, and there are some great
food stalls in the area that are brilliant for fruit and vegetables, bread
and cheeses."

This
down-to-earth, colourful local marketplace is especially good for exotic
fish, halal meats, and African-Caribbean vegetables
like yam and plantain. It's also good for specialist music stalls, from
country and folk to reggae.
Check out the unusual ethnic fabrics and handmade African garments here too.

Church Street and Bell Street
|
|
Recommended
by BBC London's Lisa I'Anson
"Church Street
is a great local market, full of the usual fruit and veg,
clothes and household goods, but if you dig deeper there's a lot more than at
first meets the eye. Bell Street
sells more unusual food stuffs, including halal
meats and Middle Eastern cooking ingredients, and there's some great little
bric-a-brac stalls and fresh flowers a-plenty. I particularly like Alfie's Antique Market, a real treasure trove full of
lots of hidden gems. And the best thing they do? A fantastic breakfast on
their rooftop café."
